Abstract
conjoined nerve roots are the most common anomalies of the lumbosacral nerve roots. But, conjoined nerve roots associated with spine anomalies are quite rare.
A forty-eight year old man had pain on right lower extremity for twenty months and this symptom was gradually aggravated. He had no neurologic deficit on the right lower limb but SLR was limited to thirty degrees.
Simple lumbar spine AP and lateral X-ray showed degenerative change especially at L4-5 level and congenital absence of left fifth inferior articular facet. Myelogram showed conjoined nerve roots of left L4,5 and Sl. Posterior decompression,
instrumentation and posterolateral fusion was done from L4 ,5 and Sl. Posterior decompression, instrumentation and posterolateral fusion was done from L4 to Sl. Clinical outcome checked at l year follow up showed excellent result. Authors
experienced a
case of conjoined nerve roots associated with congenital absence of fifth lumbosacral articular facet.
